AP June 27FREETOWN, Sierra Leone — Sierra Leone warned Friday that it is a serious crime to shelter someone infected with the ebola virus. The statement from the Health Ministry also lamented the fact that a number of patients had discharged themselves from hospital in Kenema district where the outbreak is taking place and gone into hiding. According to the World Health Organization, there are 176 people infected with the ebola virus in Sierra Leone and at least 46 fatalities in what is being called the worst outbreak of the deadly disease across three West African countries. “The Health Ministry wishes the general public to know that any person who obstructs or interferes with the performance of the medical team in any of the ebola observation and treatment centers, would be guilty of an offence and liable to punishment,” said the statement, highlighting the challenges faced by those combating the disease in remote areas. In some villages, health workers have been attacked after rumors spread that it the drugs they dispenses actually caused the disease. There is no cure for the disease caused by the ebola virus which can rip through a body in just two days, starting with headache and fatigue and progressing through vomiting, diarrhea and massive internal bleeding. More than half of those infected die. Combating the disease relies on isolating the infected and those they have been in contact with to prevent further transmission through body fluids and direct contact. The latest figures from the WHO count 635 cases across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone with at least 367 dead.

A Bengal tiger snatched a man off a fishing boat in eastern India, dragging him away into a mangrove swamp as his children looked on in horror, according to his son. The attack happened on Thursday as Sushil Manjhi and his son and daughter were crab fishing in a stream in the Sunderbans National Park. The tiger leaped aboard the boat and clamped its jaws on Manjhi's neck, said Sushil's son, Jyotish. The tiger 'quickly flung my father on his back and gave a giant leap before disappearing into the forest,' said Jyotish from his village of Lahiripur in West Bengal state 'Shortly after we reached the spot, around 7am, we got a whiff of a strange odour. We immediately decided to turn back to a safer zone,' Jyotish told The Times of India. He told the newspaper they paddled towards a less dense area when the tiger struck. 'Suddenly, my sister cried out: "Dada, bagh (tiger)". I was stunned, and my body froze. All I saw a flash of yellow. It took me a moment to register the gruesome sight before me. My father was completely buried under the beast,' he said. Daily Mail Read More>>>>

Deadliest Ebola Outbreak On Record: Woe To The Inhabitants Of The Earth! There Will Be Plagues And Infectious Diseases

It begins in the morning. The victim awakens feeling unwell. They’re without appetite. Their head aches. Sore throat. Fever. Chills. What’s happening to the victim’s body isn’t dissimilar to other diseases that attack the immune system, but this one’s substantially more aggressive. “Exactly when and where you caught Ebola virus is unclear,” wrote Lancaster University lecturer Derek Gatherer. “It can take anywhere between two and 21 days from initial infection to the first symptoms. What is more certain is that you are now infectious yourself. Your family, friends and anyone in close contact with you are now in mortal danger.”The danger has never been greater in West Africa as the worst Ebola outbreak on record continues its deadly sweep of jungles and cities, hopping national borders and frustrating hundreds of doctors who parachuted in to vanquish the disease but have so far failed. As of Thursday, the pandemic with a 90 percent mortality rate has killed more than 367 people and afflicted 635 more in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, where it is believed to have begun. PHELPS, N.Y. (AP) — Severe thunderstorms are being blamed for the deaths of two people killed by a falling tree in New York, flooded roads in northeast Ohio and downed power lines in Indiana and Pennsylvania. Police say a tree fell across a road in the rural town of Phelps around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday as a line of powerful storms rolled across western New York. Officials say the tree landed on a car, killing a man and woman from out of state. In Ohio, high water from two days of heavy rains left some roads flooded, causing headaches for motorists early Wednesday. A stretch of Route 228 north of Pittsburgh is closed due to downed utility poles.

Now for the prayer of Pope Francis:
“May this World Cup take place with serenity and tranquillity, always with mutual respect, solidarity and brotherhood among men and women who acknowledge each other as members of a single family”.

Twin EF-4 Tornadoes Hit Pilger, Nebraska: Demons Of The Air Together With The Antichrist Will Perform Great Wonders On Earth And In The Atmosphere

“God will strike in an unprecedented way. Our Lady of La Salette 19 Sept. 1846 (Published by Mélanie 1879)
A deadly duo of massive, relentlessly fast-moving tornadoes rained down terror in northeast Nebraska on Monday evening. Photos from the tiny town of Pilger, Nebraska show a community devastated after 200MPH winds ripped though and leveled entire neighborhoods, gutted the town's middle school and destroyed it's Farmer's Co-Op and much of its farming infrastructure as corn silos crumpled in the face of the winds. As Monday evening turned to night, two casualties had been reported, with at least 16 critically injured in the area. At least one of those killed was a child. The National Weather Service continued to warn of possible tornadoes over large swaths of both Nebraska and Iowa, as well as the flash floods and severe thunderstorms also birthed by these powerful storm systems. 'I’m standing in Pilger, and I see devastation,' Stanton County Commissioner Jerry Weatherholt told the Lincoln Journal-Star. 'It looks like a war zone. It absolutely looks like a war zone.' First responders swarmed what was left of Pilger, but some witnesses described the gut-wrenching rescue efforts as disorganized at best. 'There are a lot of people around not too much organization,' said Weatherholt. The initial efforts proved daunting as rescuers were faced with the chaos of near total destruction. 'We're still digging people out,' Stanton County emergency manager Sanford Goshorn told CNN on Monday night. At least three tornadoes were reported in the area Monday evening, with more potentially to come through early Tuesday. Two of the menacing storms are believed to have had an intensity of EF-4, which are some of the deadliest and most destructive. Experts, some of whom had never seen the double twister phenomenon, made it clear that the rare occurrence was one for the record books. 'This is a significant storm, and one that I have never seen the likes of, ever. Really,' said Weather Channel severe weather expert Dr. Greg Postel. Daily Mail Read More>>>>>

CAPE TOWN - Over 8,000 people living in various informal settlements in Cape Town were affected by floods in the area, the city's disaster risk management centre said on Sunday. These included 2,000 households in Khayelitsha, Strand, Vrygrond, Lotus River, Gugulethu, Delft and Philippi, spokesman Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said. Over 800 blankets, 7,000 meals, 70 flood kits, and 200 mattresses were distributed to those affected by the floods in the area so far. Solomons-Johannes said Khayelitsha was the worst affected area, with around 7,000 people affected by the flooding, which began on Saturday. "Strong winds resulted in a storm surge since Saturday night that will extend until later today [Sunday] along Table Bay and Cape Agulhas," he said. Waves around six to nine metres and strong onshore winds could intensify the impact of the storm surge. "When this happens, the rise of the water level above the high tide can reach areas that might otherwise have been safe," he said. The flooding could also cause the knocking over of coastal structures, roads being flooded and boats may be pushed aground. Weather conditions were expected to improve on Monday, with only light showers expected in Cape Town. ENCA

BBC Six people have been killed in violent storms which battered cities in western Germany overnight. In the worst incident, three died when a tree fell on a garden shed in Duesseldorf where they had sought shelter, emergency services said. Cyclists were also killed by falling trees in Cologne and Krefeld and a sixth person died while clearing a street in Essen. The storms ended a heatwave that lasted throughout the Whitsun weekend holiday.Public transport was badly hit in much of North Rhine-Westphalia on Tuesday morning, and authorities urged people to avoid Duesseldorf, where trains, roads and the airport were all affected. During the night, emergency services removed the bodies of three people from a garden shed in the city. Three other people who had taken refuge in the shed were injured, two of them seriously. Several others were hurt elsewhere in the city. Two red pandas were reported missing from a zoo in Gelsenkirchen in the aftermath of the storm, with one since recovered and receiving medical assistance for shock, zoo officials said. Local residents have been asked to notify the zoo if they spot the remaining missing panda. Streets in Duesseldorf were blocked by fallen trees and there was damage to overhead power lines. The tram system was reportedly suspended. There were traffic jams on 270km (165 miles) of the region's roads during the morning rush hour, local broadcasters reported. Winds of up to 150km/h (93mph) were recorded at Duesseldorf airport on Tuesday night. Forecasters predict the storm will continue to move to the south and south-east of the country over the next two days, reports say. "We must reckon that the total damage will run into double-digit millions," North Rhine-Westphalia's Interior Minister Ralf Jaeger told German media. "That was one of the worst storms to hit (the region) in the past 20 years." Lower Saxony to the north has also suffered heavy damage. Temperatures of up to 36C (97F) were recorded in Germany at the weekend, the highest ever recorded for the time of year.

(CanIndia) A “volcano-like eruption” in Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh triggered panic among the people of the area. Reports said that flames and a hot liquid stream were seen spewing out volcano of a hill 100 m from Gadiyada village. The village is over 200 km from Shimla. State geologists confirmed that the eruption is a ‘small magmatic activity’. After the report, a team of Geological Survey of India (GSI) reached the site on Thursday. Fearing that a bigger eruption could damage their agricultural land and houses, residents of around half a dozen villages in the vicinity of the eruption are anxiously awaiting the final report of GSI team. “Gases and liquids are being emitted from holes in a 10 feet area around the hill where the volcanic activity took place,” said Ved Prakash, president of Drang panchayat. He said the eruption, unheard of in this area, caused panic among villagers. This is the first time such a volcanic activity has been witnessed in the state. Chief parliamentary secretary Jagjivan Pal in whose Sulah assembly constituency the area falls visited the spot on Tuesday. He said the flames and the hot liquid emanating from the hill had created panic. “Underground temperature in the area has increased manifold and people say that a steel electricity pole had become red hot a couple of days back,” he added. Pal said a sulphur-like material and black stone is flowing out from the perimeter of the hill.

(Tines Of India COLOMBO): Floods caused by days of torrential rain have displaced over 100,000 people in Sri Lanka, latest government data showed on Friday. The Disaster Management Centre said that 26,688 families comprising 109,075 people have been affected by the rain, floods and landslides as of Friday afternoon, Xinhua reported. At least 23 people were killed and one person remains missing. Over 40 houses have been completely destroyed due to heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding in six districts while 101 more homes have been partially damaged. Most of the deaths and damage have been reported from the Kalutara district in Western Province and relief efforts are going on, disaster management minister Mahinda Amaraweera told reporters. "We are providing compensation of SLRs 15,000 (about $115) to people who have lost family members. There has been criticism this is not enough but this is all that has been allocated from the finance ministry," he said. In Western Province 148 schools re-opened after being closed due to adverse weather conditions earlier in the week, the provincial council said. President Mahinda Rajapaksa tweeted on Monday that he had instructed his officials to "expedite relief measures to communities affected by the bad weather". Security forces and police have initiated flood relief measures to rescue people trapped or marooned due to rising water levels and roads being inundated.

It is believed that 58 people have died and it is feared that the death toll could reach three figures as a remote part of northern Afghanistan is hit by floods. In addition, thousands more have been left homeless. The flooding is the most recent in a series of deadly flash floods, landslides and avalanches in a part of the country that is almost cut off from the rest. Lt Fazel Rahman, the chief of police in the Guzirga i-Nur district of northeastern Baghlan, said that 54 bodies have been recovered so far including the remains of women and children, but many others are still missing. He called for emergency assistance from the central government. 'So far no one has come to help us. People are trying to find their missing family members,' Lt Rahman said, adding that the district's police force was overstretched by the scale of the disaster. A statement from the office of the president Hamid Karzai put the death toll at 58 while other sources placed it higher still. Gen Mohammad Zahir Azimi, a spokesman for the Afghan Defence Ministry, said that two Army helicopters have been sent to the area to provide assistance. Daily Mail Read More>>>>>>

He called it a fairly normal swarm for Yellowstone. He didn't expect there to be any damage. Seismographs recorded 31 quakes in the same area south of Gardiner on Saturday, while another 23 were reported last Wednesday and Thursday in an area between 18 and 19 miles east-southeast of West Yellowstone. These astonishing photographs show the apocalyptic scene of an 80mph dust storm which killed five people and injured 30 more. The storm struck yesterday in Iran's capital Tehran, blacking out the sun in a swirling cloud for several minutes and tearing down trees. It also caused a chain-reaction crash involving 20 vehicles on a highway south of the capital - and international flights were cancelled. Air traffic controllers diverted several flights and heavy winds also engulfed parts of central Iran, but no casualties were reported there. Children and the elderly, as well as those with heart problems, were told to remain indoors - but some 50,000 homes suffered power cuts. The storm hit at 5.30pm local time (2pm BST), and the temperature fell from 33C (91F) to 23C (73F) as it blew through from the desert. While sandstorms are common in many parts of the Middle East, 'haboob' storms like yesterday's are unusual in Tehran. Daily Mail >>>>>

Weather officials in Albuquerque say a mysterious presence that showed up on its radar the last few nights has turned out to be of the insect variety. A mysterious green formation showed up on the National Weather Service's radar that looked to be rain. It was no storm, but a swarm of grasshoppers over Albuquerque's West Mesa for the fourth night in a row on Friday. Meteorologist Chuck Jones says the swarm got caught up in winds heading southwest and is being carried as high as 1,000 feet, well above the height of the city's tallest buildings. Jones says the grasshoppers likely hatched weeks ago and are now grown, leading to their ability to trigger radar images. Officials say last year's monsoon season and a drier winter created the ideal environment for the grasshoppers to hatch. There wasn't enough rain to kill the eggs so they all hatched, creating the worst infestation in 20 years. Technicians initially thought their equipment was malfunctioning when they saw several unexplained clusters. 'We really thought that our radar was broke,' Brent Wachter, a forecaster from the National Weather Service told ABC News. 'So we sent our technicians out there a couple of times and we couldn't find anything wrong so we had to call the National Radar Depot in Oklahoma.' Some citizens want the state to spray insecticides for the insects, but John R. Garlisch, extension agent at Bernalillo County Cooperative Extension Service says it will be ineffective. 'It is a nuisance to people because they fly into people’s faces while walking, running, and biking. They are hopping into people’s homes and garages, they splatter the windshield and car grill while driving, and they will eat people’s plants,' Garlisch told ABC News, but that 'this, too, shall pass.' US Catholic Bishops Letter To EPA: Refuse To Blame Sins Of The Priests For Nature's Vengeance Instead Put The Blame For Climate Change On Greedy Corporations!

The priests, ministers of my Son, the priests, by their wicked lives, by their irreverence and their impiety in the celebration of the holy mysteries, by their love of money, their love of honors and pleasures, and the priests have become cesspools of impurity. Yes, the priests are asking vengeance, and vengeance is hanging over their heads. Woe to the priests and to those dedicated to God who by their unfaithfulness and their wicked lives are crucifying my Son again! The sins of those dedicated to God cry out towards Heaven and call for vengeance, and now vengeance is at their door, for there is no one left to beg mercy and forgiveness for the people. There are no more generous souls; there is no one left worthy of offering a stainless sacrifice to the Eternal for the sake of the world. Gina McCarthy
Administrator
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
Washington, DC 20460

Dear Administrator McCarthy:

I write on behalf of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to address the Environmental Protection Agency’s efforts to develop standards to reduce carbon pollution from existing power plants and thereby mitigate climate change. The USCCB recognizes the importance of finding means to reduce carbon pollution. These standards should protect the health and welfare of all people, especially children, the elderly, as well as poor and vulnerable communities, from harmful pollution emitted from power plants and from the impacts of climate change.

As bishops and people of faith, we do not speak as experts on carbon pollution or on the technical remedies to address climate change. We are pastors in a faith tradition that teaches, as Pope Francis recently stated, “Creation is a gift, it is a wonderful gift that God has given us, so that we care for it and we use it for the benefit of all, always with great respect and gratitude.”

The best evidence indicates that power plants are the largest stationary source of carbon emissions in the United States, and a major contributor to climate change. Power plants have often been located near low-income neighborhoods and communities of color. Air pollution from these plants contributes to respiratory problems, especially in the young and the elderly.

Efforts to address climate change must take into account creation and its relationship to “the least of these” (Matthew 25). Too frequently we observe the damaging impacts from climate-related events in the United States and across the globe, particularly on poor and vulnerable communities. Beyond the regulations, the United States should exercise leadership for a globally negotiated climate change agreement.

We know that the communities served by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) are already experiencing the tragic consequences of climate change. Increasingly limited access to water, reduced crop yields, more widespread disease, increased frequency and intensity of droughts and storms, as well as conflict over declining resources – all these are making the lives of the world’s poorest people even more precarious.

Therefore, as we wrote in our statement, Global Climate Change: A Plea for Dialogue, Prudence and the Common Good, “Action to mitigate global climate change must be built upon a foundation of social and economic justice.”

As the EPA takes steps to address climate change and reduce carbon pollution, we ask you to be guided by the following principles taken from our statement and the teaching of Pope Francis:

 Respect for Human Life and Dignity. The regulations and all efforts to reduce the impact of climate change should respect human life and dignity, especially that of the poorest and most vulnerable: from children in the womb to the elderly. In particular, these measures must protect poor and vulnerable communities and persons from the health impacts of climate change, including exposure to climate-sensitive diseases, heat waves and diminished air quality.

 Prudence on Behalf of the Common Good. We believe that wise action to address climate change is required now to protect the common good for present and future generations.

 Priority for the Poor and Vulnerable. The consequences of climate change will be borne by the world’s most vulnerable people; inaction will worsen their suffering.

 Social and Economic Justice. Workers should be protected from negative effects on the workforce resulting from the new standards and should receive assistance to mitigate impacts on their livelihoods and families. Any additional costs that such standards may generate must be distributed fairly, without undue burden on the poor.

 Care for creation. We are called to be responsible stewards of the earth and to use the gifts we have been given to protect human life and dignity, now and in the future.

 Participation. Local communities should have a voice in shaping these standards based on their local impact, especially low-income communities whose voice is often not heard. It is in accord with their dignity that they participate in this process.

We appreciate your commitment to address this urgent global challenge confronting the human family. The USCCB stands ready to work with you, the Administration, and members of Congress to ensure that measures necessary to address climate change both care for creation and protect “the least of these.”

Sincerely,

Most Reverend Thomas G. Wenski
Archbishop of Miami
Chairman, Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development
