Quake Under San Francisco’s Airport Rattles Nerves

Minor earthquake under San Francisco’s airport rattles nerves
A 3.7-magnitude earthquake hit San Francisco on Friday evening, with an epicenter under the city’s international airport, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The quake struck about 8 miles beneath the airport at 6:38 p.m. local time, the USGS said. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage at the airport or elsewhere. Bay Area Rapid Transit, San Francisco’s subway system, reduced the speed of trains on Friday evening to complete inspections for any damage along its tracks. For some people across the San Francisco Bay Area, the quake produced a thud, as if something large were hitting a nearby building. There were no active travel alerts related to the earthquake on the San Francisco International Airport’s website as of 10:30 p.m. Friday. A spokesperson for the airport did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The earthquake was minor by California standards but notable for its location directly beneath a major airport that lies near the San Andreas Fault, a major one that runs from Northern to Southern California. The airport, which served about 20 million passengers last year, has an air traffic control tower that is designed to withstand a magnitude 8.0 earthquake. Source

Novena To Our Lady of La Salette First Day 2023

"Fight, Children Of Light, You, The Few Who Can See"

Remember, Our Lady of LaSalette, true Mother of Sorrows, the tears which thou did shed for me on Calvary.  Be mindful also of the unceasing care which thou does exercise to screen me from the Justice of God, and consider whether thou can now abandon thy child, for whom thou hast done so much.  Inspired by this consoling thought, I come to cast myself at thy feet, in spite of my infidelities and ingratitude.

Mention your intentions here:

Reject not my prayer, O Virgin of reconciliation, convert me, obtain for me the grace to love Jesus Christ above all things and to console thee too by living a holy life, in order that one day I may be able to see thee in Heaven.

+Amen

Our Lady of La Salette, pray for us.

MARIA OF THE CROSS,
Victim of Jesus nee MELANIE CALVAT,
Shepherdess of La Salette

Searing Arizona Heatwave That's Delivered 110F Weather For 30 Days Straight Kills Off State's Iconic Cactuses

Searing Arizona heatwave that's delivered 110F weather for 30 days straight kills off state's iconic cactuses, as locals bake cookies in CARS and complain of melting roads
A searing heat wave that continues to blister much of the US is so hot that even Arizona's iconic cactuses are dying off. In Phoenix, Saturday is forecast to be the 30th consecutive day with high temperatures above 110F, a streak that has shattered all records for the city, with fatal results. At the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, saguaro cactuses, a symbol of the US West, are drooping, shriveling and in some cases toppling over during the record streak of extreme heat. Residents of the area have taken to TikTok to highlight the staggering effects of the intense heat, showing cookies baking on car dashboards, rubber dog toys melting in the sun, and roads soft enough to leave footprints. The heat wave has had deadly consequences as well, with at least 25 confirmed heat-related deaths and 249 more pending investigation in Maricopa County, the area surrounding Phoenix, so far this summer. At the Desert Botanical Garden, plant physiologists are studying just how much heat cactuses can take. The garden has specimens representing has over two-thirds of all cactus species, including iconic saguaros which can grow to over 40 feet tall. Until recently, many thought the plants were perfectly adapted to extreme high temperatures and drought. Arizona's heat wave is testing those assumptions. 'These plants are adapted to this heat, but at some point the heat needs to cool down and the water needs to come,' Tania Hernandez, a research scientist at the garden, told Reuters this week. The last time rain was measured at the Phoenix airport was March 22, a dry spell of 130 days so far. Even overnight lows have been boiling. On Wednesday, the overnight temperature in Phoenix fell under 90 degrees for the first time since July 9, ending a 16-day run with lows at 90 or above. Experts say cactuses need to cool down at night or through rain and mist. If that does not happen they sustain internal damage. Plants now suffering from prolonged, excessive heat may take months or years to die, Hernandez said.  Source

Swarms of quakes shake Salton Sea region in Southern California, seismologists say

Two swarms of earthquakes reaching up to 4.5 magnitude rattled the Salton Sea region of Southern California, the U.S. Geological Survey reports. The first swarm began at 12:08 p.m. Saturday, April 29, in Heber near the U.S.-Mexico border, about 60 miles south of the Salton Sea, the USGS reported. It included nearly 50 tremors reaching up to 3.7-magnitude, felt by about 60 people. The quakes continued overnight, with one hitting at 5:12 a.m. Sunday, April 30. A second swarm began at 12:09 a.m. Sunday, April 30, near Niland on the southern shore of the Salton Sea, consisting of more than 25 tremors with one of the latest hitting at 5:28 a.m. The largest, a 4.5-magnitude quake, was felt by about 30 people, according to the USGS. Other quakes in the swarm reached up to 4.1 magnitude. A 3.2-magnitude quake hit near Ocotillo Wells 30 miles west of the Salton Sea at 10:55 p.m. Saturday, April 29, followed by smaller aftershocks, the USGS reported. The Salton Sea is a shallow, landlocked body of highly saline water about 180 miles southeast of Los Angeles. It is about 45 miles long and 20 miles wide. Source
