Three more University of Maryland students sickened with adenovirus, bringing total to eight - one week after their classmate DIED of the virus

Three more students have been diagnosed with adenovirus at the University of Maryland where one immunocompromised student died of the illness earlier this month, Fox45 has reported.  Adenovirus is a common and typically non-life-threatening virus, but it has proven deadly for people with weakened immune systems this year, including 11 children at a New Jersey care facility, and 18-year-old University of Maryland freshman, Olivia Paregol.   The university came under fire after Paregol's family in Glenwood, Maryland, said the school failed to inform both her and her parents of her diagnosis and revealed that her dorm had been infested with mold.  Some students have blamed mold for Paregol's death, but fungus does not cause viral infections and the University of Maryland is assuring its campus community and the public that it is taking precautions.   So far, none of the additional students with adenovirus have needed to be hospitalized, and will likely recover on their own as the virus poses little danger to healthy adults.  Source

Polio-like disease spreads to 31 states: Officials confirm 116 cases of the mystery illness which causes paralysis

The mysterious, rare 'polio-like' disease blighting the US has now spread to 31 states, sickening at least 116 children. And yet, officials still have no idea what causes acute flaccid myelitis (AFM), nor how to treat or prevent it. The poorly understood illness, which can cause paralysis and, in rare cases, prove deadly, has struck Colorado the hardest, followed by Texas. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently investigating a further 170 cases of people with tell-tale symptoms of AFM.There has already been more than three-and-a-half times as many cases as last year, but doctors remain baffled as to what is causing the illness. Ebola death toll rises to 214 in Democratic Republic of the Congo as health workers are forced to stop fighting the deadly virus when their hotel is hit by a shell in armed rebel attack

Health workers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo had to be evacuated from their hotel after it was hit by a shell in a nearby armed rebel attack on Friday.  Some 16 World Health Organization staff were taken out of the city of Beni, where they are trying to fight an Ebola outbreak which has so far killed 214 people.   Efforts to control the epidemic had to be toned down on Saturday because of the attack, with vaccinations and peacekeeping suspended, but work resumed on Sunday.  The organisation's director general said he heard 'heavy gunfire' over the phone, and a shell hit the workers' hotel but didn't explode.  Violence is common in the central African country and has made it difficult to stop the Ebola outbreak – earlier in the week eight United Nations peacekeepers and 12 local soldiers died in an ambush.  At least 366 people have caught Ebola since the outbreak began at the beginning of August, and experts last week warned it may not be over for another six months. Article: 4 Whether our atmosphere is the demons' place of punishment?

Objection: 

1. It would seem that this atmosphere is not the demons' place of punishment. For a demon is a spiritual nature. But a spiritual nature is not affected by place. Therefore there is no place of punishment for demons.

2. Further, man's sin is not graver than the demons'. But man's place of punishment is hell. Much more, therefore, is it the demons' place of punishment; and consequently not the darksome atmosphere.

3. Further, the demons are punished with the pain of fire. But there is no fire in the darksome atmosphere. Therefore the darksome atmosphere is not the place of punishment for the demons.

On the contrary Augustine says (Gn ad lit. iii, 10), that "the darksome atmosphere is as a prison to the demons until the judgment day."

I answer that The angels in their own nature stand midway between God and men. Now the order of Divine providence so disposes, that it procures the welfare of the inferior orders through the superior. But man's welfare is disposed by Divine providence in two ways: first of all, directly, when a man is brought unto good and withheld from evil; and this is fittingly done through the good angels. In another way, indirectly, as when anyone assailed is exercised by fighting against opposition. It was fitting for this procuring of man's welfare to be brought about through the wicked spirits, lest they should cease to be of service in the natural order. Consequently a twofold place of punishment is due to the demons: one, by reason of their sin, and this is hell; and another, in order that they may tempt men, and thus the darksome atmosphere is their due place of punishment. Now the procuring of men's salvation is prolonged even to the judgment day: consequently, the ministry of the angels and wrestling with demons endure until then. Hence until then the good angels are sent to us here; and the demons are in this dark atmosphere for our trial: although some of them are even now in hell, to torment those whom they have led astray; just as some of the good angels are with the holy souls in heaven. But after the judgment day all the wicked, both men and angels, will be in hell, and the good in heaven.She said: 'These ionospheric thunderstorms are well known, but it's only now we have been able to show a direct link between them and the loss of the GPS. Reply to Objection:

1. A place is not penal to angel or soul as if affecting the nature by changing it, but as affecting the will by saddening it: because the angel or the soul apprehends that it is in a place not agreeable to its will.

2. One soul is not set over another in the order of nature, as the demons are over men in the order of nature; consequently there is no parallel.

3. Some have maintained that the pain of sense for demons and souls is postponed until the judgment day: and that the beatitude of the saints is likewise postponed until the judgment day. But this is erroneous, and contrary to the teaching of the Apostle (2Co 5,1): "If our earthly house of this habitation be dissolved, we have a house in heaven." Others, again, while not admitting the same of souls, admit it as to demons. But it is better to say that the same judgment is passed upon wicked souls and wicked angels, even as on good souls and good angels.

Consequently, it must be said that, although a heavenly place belongs to the glory of the angels, yet their glory is not lessened by their coming to us, for they consider that place to be their own; in the same way as we say that the bishop's honor is not lessened while he is not actually sitting on his throne. In like manner it must be said, that although the demons are not actually bound within the fire of hell while they are in this dark atmosphere, nevertheless their punishment is none the less; because they know that such confinement is their due. Hence it is said in a gloss upon Jc 3,6: "They carry fire of hell with them wherever they go." Nor is this contrary to what is said (Lc 8,31), "They besought the Lord not to cast them into the abyss"; for they asked for this, deeming it to be a punishment for them to be cast out of a place where they could injure men. Hence it is stated, "They [Vulg. 'He'] besought Him that He would not expel them [Vulg. 'him'] out of the country" (Mc 5,10).

SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA) — A 35,000-acre brush fire made a destructive, two-county march toward the Pacific Ocean Friday, destroying at least 150 homes and forcing the evacuation of more than 250,000 people.Powered by Santa Ana winds and dry air, the Woolsey Fire, which erupted Thursday afternoon in Ventura County before it raced into Los Angeles County, chewed its way through brush and into neighborhoods of Westlake Village and Malibu. The L.A. County Fire Dept. Friday confirmed reports of a critical burn patient in the 33000 block of Mulholland in Malibu. Officials said they were not immediately able to get to the patient due to downed powerlines on the road. The L.A. County Coroner confirmed at shortly before 10 p.m. two bodies had been found in the burn area of the Woolsey Fire. It was not immediately clear if the deaths were as a result of the fire. Source

Firefighters are looking ahead to a narrow window of calm wind Saturday as they battle to gain ground on the Woolsey Fire, which burned 35,000 acres and forced closures on the 101 Freeway and Pacific Coast Highway. After a brief respite from the strong winds, a red flag warning goes into effect against early Sunday and isn't set to expire until Tuesday evening. The fire indiscriminately consumed multi-million dollar mansions and mobile homes alike Friday, turning what it touched to ash as it forced a citywide Malibu evacuation and sent residents scrambling to find a way out of the burn area. The fire, which erupted Thursday afternoon in Ventura County but raced into Los Angeles County, chewed its way through brush and into neighborhoods of Westlake Village and Malibu.
